KYOTO BOTANICAL GARDENS
The Kyoto Botanical Gardens were opened in 1924 and cover about 60 acres.
They are one of the foremost botanical gardens in Japan, with around 12,000 species of plants and some 700,000 visitors annually.
The gardens are open year-round, with the attractions varying according to the seasons. The photos shown here were taken during a visit in March, when not many flowers were blooming outside. However there was a flower show at that time in an enclosed temporary greenhouse (see photos below).
There is an impressive Conservatory (photos on a separate page) with several different growing environments for a vast range of plants from all over the world.
As opposed to many other Japanese gardens, the Kyoto Botanical Gardens DO have a lawn, a ‘green space to relax in’ as per the garden brochure.
